Solar panels are effective when it faces perpendicularly to the rays of the sun. However, the sun does not stay exactly where it is as the earth rotates giving the sun its sunrise and sunset. And the sun does not tread the same location in the hemisphere as it moves about an angle depending on the time of the year. Hence a solar panel must have varying positions to maintain its maximum exposure to the sun. This article tackles about optimum solar panel positioning in the Philippines.

We have heard about horror stories of people missing on the mountains. Having lost for five days or more in the wilderness, where the family has been anxious about one's situation and location. We've heard people who were lost forever; where people close to that person have been deprived of closure. Asking what may have happened, where might he be. Yet, there is only one solution to this problem that every traveler or adventurer must adhere to before one take that first step to go out from the confines of our comfort zone... let at least one person know where you are headed. Yet, is following this "golden rule" of travel already sufficient?

Since 1990's the Casio G-Shock series has been a watch of my choice. By its name these watches are expected to be durable by being shock-resistant, water resistant to 20BARs (200,000 hPa) or 200 times the normal atmospheric pressure at the earth's surface or approximately 200 meters below sea. In this article, we test the capability of Casio G-Shock's new creation, the Rangeman which is built for hikers and mountaineers.

As a travel and mapping advocate, I have been going around the Philippines, mostly its remote islands and climbing its mountains, to document my expeditions and map the country for navigation and aid disaster resiliency planning. I have noticed that they all have something in common: communities that have inadequate or no power at all because power suppliers could not reach their location yet. This article is Schadow1 Expeditions introduction as we tap the benefits of renewable energy, specifically solar energy to empower communities in the Philippines.

Project NOAH - A life saver for travelers and mountaineers alike.

Project NOAH stands for Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards  that was launched as a project of Department of Science and Technology to create an application that integrates real-time information of hazards in the country. It is a joint project of several government agencies and organizations that made this project as one of the most important working project of the government. It feeds real-time and accurate information of various monitoring equipment used by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
