Sabitang Laya - the best island beach getaway of the Caramoan

Sabitang Laya Beach Caramoan - Schadow1 Expeditions
Part 5 of the Caramoan Series

Sabitang Laya is so far the best island beach get away in the Caramoan Peninsula. Being situated at one of the nearer islands from the main island hopping jump-off of Barangay Bikal, it is only about 20 minutes away. The island features a campground and shallow turquoise waters touching its fine golden sands with natural granite towers. It is no doubt that this island is one of the beautiful location being sought in Caramoan by Filipinos and foreigners alike.

The Sabitang Laya came from two words which means in English "to where fishing nets are hung." Before the Caramoan was discovered as one of the best tourist island hopping and beach destination in the Philippines, local fishermen use this area as their staging ground in fixing their nets before they go on fishing along other parts of the seas of the Caramoan peninsula.

Today, this beach is a favorite campground due to its semi-sandy grass land and large natural granite structures that mimics this beach to look like a lagoon. Furthermore, the waters along the beach area are shallow therefore waves do not get too strong.

The Sabitang Laya is actually a part of the eastern shore of the Bagieng island. But because the beatiful beach destination is only at its western shore, there is a notion that Sabitang Laya seem to be separated from the main island itself but geographically it is not.

We could not resist having fun on this island and do various shots while swimming around its calm beach.

Sabitang Laya is part of the nearer islands of the Caramoan Peninsula and is accessible via a boat ride that costs P1500 for a six-passenger boat. You may negotiate with your hotel for an island hopping itinerary or contact our boatman who helped us on our mapping expedition of the Caramoan. You may contact Jonald Cordez at his mobile phone +63 (929) 1112131.

Our visit to Sabitang Laya is part of our mapping expedition of the Caramoan last December 26-30, 2013 in our advocacy to assure that a Filipino must not be a stranger to his own motherland.
