Mt. Batulao is known with mountain guides as young as 9 years old and other kids help their parents earn a living by bringing in refreshment supplies to different kubos (nipa hut) along the trail which makes them trek and climb 4-8 kilometers daily to elevations of above 500 meters above sea level. Thus, their slippers are easily worn out and worse they are using dilapidated slippers already when trekking this mountain.
