Kayangan Lake - One of the cleanest lake in the Philippines

Kayangan Lake is one of the most photographed spot in the Philippines due to its beautiful granite islet/hills spreading across the turquoise seas around Calamian Group of Islands in Palawan. A captivating scenery to which Filipinos must be proud of and to preserve. Kayangan is no doubt to be one of the cleanest lakes in the Philippines to which humans and fishes alike are at harmony. Located at Coron Island, this lake is a must visit.

Kayangan lake can be accessed through a boat from the pier of Coron town at Busuanga Island. Not be confused. The Coron Island is one of the largest islands of the Calamian to which there are a lot of secluded beaches and virgin lakes which includes Barracuda, Cabugao, and Kayangan. While the Coron Town is the main town at Busuanga Island to where there is an airport and is the one that is a residential area.

Island hopping itineraries are available to which the Coron Island Itinerary gives you a chance to go around the beaches and lakes of Coron. An entrance fee of P800/pax which is payable at the chieftain's office at Coron Town allows you to visit all of the spots at Coron Island excluding the boat ride. For Kayangan alone, a P200/pax entrance fee is required.

When we went there, we visited three islands: Ditaytayan (the southernmost Calamian island), Malcapuya, and Coron for P4000 boat ride that can fit up to 6 people.

Kayangan Lake is at the northern part of Coron Island facing Busuanga and can be reached through a 20-minute hike of the iron-rich soil and rocks of Coron. At the highest point of the hike is a small cave, and to which there is a window to take photographs to the most photographed view of the island.

From there you have to descend to reach Kayangan lake, the cleanest lake of the Philippines.

The lake can get very deep at the middle part but the rocky area near the wooden bridge is a great area for snorkeling to which fishes are not afraid of humans and would stay to have their pictures taken.

Kayangan Lake has been mapped to which the data gathered has been contributed to +OpenStreetMap Philippines so a Filipino will not be a stranger to his own motherland.
